TL;DR: Choose a wardrobe by checking door movement, access to each storage bay, internal layout and installation requirements against the bedroom you actually have.
Key takeaways
- Hinged and sliding wardrobes need different access checks.
- Door overlap changes which storage bays can be reached at once.
- Hanging space, shelves and drawers should follow the clothes you store.
- Delivery, assembly and the maker's securing instructions belong in the buying brief.
Are hinged or sliding wardrobe doors better?
The better door system is the one that lets you reach your belongings without disrupting the room's everyday use.
For hinged doors, mark the opening arc beside the bed and other furniture. Check the handle position as well as the panel. For sliding doors, ask the supplier to demonstrate how the panels overlap and which internal bays remain exposed at each position. Do not infer this from the closed front.

FCI Nigeria has separate collections for hinged-door wardrobes and sliding-door wardrobes. Use them to compare systems, then request the selected model's drawings. A category name cannot settle whether your drawer clears your door.
Our recommendation for a Lagos bedroom is to start with the space between the bed and the proposed wardrobe. If the room is shared, rehearse one person dressing while the other moves through it. This tests a real morning, rather than a particularly obedient floor plan.
How much internal storage do you need?
Specify storage around your actual garments and belongings before choosing the front finish.
Make separate lists for long hanging items, shorter garments, folded clothes, shoes, bags and occasional luggage. Measure representative items. Ask for internal dimensions and clear hanging heights, not only the wardrobe's external height and width.
For each proposed drawer, check that it can open fully with the wardrobe door in its required position. For shelves, confirm usable depth and whether their positions can change. For high storage, decide how it will be accessed safely rather than treating every shelf as equally convenient.
A large exterior can conceal an awkward interior. Our judgement is that useful access should carry more weight than an impressive total width. Buy space you can organise and reach, not merely space you can own.

What needs measuring in a Lagos bedroom?
Measure the wardrobe location, competing furniture and the complete delivery route.
Record wall width at more than one height, ceiling height, skirting, sockets, switches and any nearby air-conditioning equipment. Photograph the room with the bed and bedside furniture in position. Where curtains sit nearby, include their occupied space rather than measuring to bare glass.
For an apartment, ask about lift dimensions, access times and building requirements before the supplier confirms delivery. For any home, check door openings, stair turns and the point at which the wardrobe will be assembled. These are project questions, not reasons to assume every Lagos building presents the same constraints.
Ask whether the wardrobe arrives assembled, in sections or as components. A unit that fits the bedroom may still need a different delivery or assembly plan.
What should you ask about installation?
Ask who is responsible for assembly, levelling and securing the wardrobe in accordance with its instructions.

Request the manufacturer's installation instructions before approving the purchase. Have the installer assess the actual wall construction and the fixings required. Do not assume a heavy wardrobe needs no securing, or that fittings suitable for one wall will suit another.
If you rent, resolve permissions for required fixing work before ordering. Do not solve an installation restriction by leaving out a safety step. Agree a suitable product and installation plan with the supplier and property owner instead.
This is not a substitute for an installer assessment. The important buying decision is to establish responsibility in writing, rather than discover after delivery that everyone assumed somebody else would handle it.
What makes a useful wardrobe enquiry?
A useful enquiry includes room measurements, a clothing inventory, preferred door system and access photographs.
Request a drawing showing external dimensions, internal compartments, door movement, drawer opening and any lighting or electrical provision. Ask for the finish specification, care information, delivery scope, assembly responsibilities and current lead time for the quoted configuration.
Contact FCI Nigeria with that information and ask for a comparison of suitable hinged and sliding options. Keep the comparison tied to one room and one storage brief so that differences in price and configuration are meaningful.

Limitations
This guide offers purchasing judgement, not a site survey, installation specification or confirmation of stock. Door mechanisms, internal dimensions, load limits and fixing requirements vary by model. The illustrations show concept settings, not exact products available to order.
